Go Home On Time Day is a national initiative which encourages employers and employees to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy work-life balance. The Australia Institute published a report providing a new snapshot of unpaid overtime and the work-life balance in Australia.

  • Australians now donate $128 billion in unpaid overtime annually to their employers
  • There is a growing desire for more leisure or family time: 33% of workers want to work less hours (up from 28% in 2013), while only 18% want more hours (down from 24%)
  • 70% of respondents said their employer uses at least one form of digital monitoring

“Increasingly, ‘work-life balance’ is more of an aspiration than a reality for many Australians,” said Matt Grudnoff, Senior Economist at The Australia Institute.
